What the dog report covers
On its dog report page, Basepaws says the Breed + Health test checks over 280 health markers, more than 30 genetic traits, and more than 300 breeds. It also groups ancestry into lineages, which are older family lines tied to a historical working role such as herding or scent hunting. Health markers span the heart, skin, blood, immune system, metabolism, muscles, nerves, eyes, kidneys, and breathing. Traits include height, muzzle length, coat colour and pattern, shedding, and tail type. The kit uses a cheek swab.

What's included in the dog DNA test?
The Breed + Health Dog DNA Test screens 280+ health markers, 30+ trait markers and 300+ breeds. Your kit includes a sterile cheek swab with stabilising liquid, a biohazard specimen bag and step-by-step instructions. Results are delivered to your online Basepaws account, where you can download a PDF. Oral health results are currently only available for cats.
How long does the dog test take?
Results take 4 to 6 weeks from when your sample is scanned in at the lab. Basepaws will email you as soon as they're ready. Make sure you register your kit online before posting it back, as unregistered samples can be delayed or lost.
What health conditions and traits does the dog test cover?
The test screens for inherited conditions across areas such as heart, blood, eyes, muscles and nerves, plus physical traits like coat and body features. See the full list of conditions and traits.
