We've partnered with Basepaws. The cat DNA test includes 30 days of unlimited vet consults.
Talk through the results with a real vet or vet nurse at Dial A Vet and know what to raise with your regular vet. Consults are general advice and teletriage. Vets do not diagnose or prescribe. For your cat, with same-day and extended hours.
Got two pets? The two-test bundle includes 60 days of vet consults: two kits and two codes, each 30 days from activation, used one after the other.
Dial A Vet partners with Basepaws to include vet consults with their DNA tests.

What the cat report covers
On its cat report page, Basepaws says the Breed + Health test checks over 64 health markers, 50 trait markers, 21 breeds, and an oral health report. Health markers span the heart, blood, skin, eyes, kidneys, metabolism, muscles, and immune system, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and polycystic kidney disease. Oral health covers bad breath, periodontal disease, and tooth resorption. Traits include coat colour, pattern, length, and texture, plus body features such as folded ears or a short tail. The kit uses a cheek swab.

Questions
What's included in the cat DNA test?
Your kit includes a sterile cheek swab with stabilising liquid, a biohazard specimen bag and instructions. One swab covers both your cat's DNA results and their Oral Health results, which are included free. Results are posted to your online Basepaws account and can be downloaded as a PDF.
How long does the cat test take?
Results take 4 to 6 weeks from when your sample is scanned in at the lab. Basepaws will email you as soon as they're ready. Make sure you register your kit online before posting it back, as unregistered samples can be delayed or lost.
What are genetic markers, and how many does the cat test screen?
Genetic markers are known locations in your cat's DNA where variations linked to health or traits can occur. The cat test screens 114 markers: 64 health markers and 50 trait markers.
Will this test confirm my cat is a pedigree?
No. The test is designed for mixed-breed domestic cats and shows which breeds your cat is most genetically similar to. It isn't a breed verification test, and even purebred cats may not show 100% similarity to their breed.
How does Basepaws work out my cat's breed makeup?
Your cat's DNA is compared against a reference database of pedigreed cats and every other sample Basepaws has tested. Results are grouped into Western, Eastern, Exotic and Persian breed groups. Because many breeds share overlapping DNA, you may see more than one breed or group.
I'm having trouble activating my code. Who should I contact?
If you're having issues activating your code on the Dial A Vet website, please contact support@dialavet.com.au and let them know you received a code from Basepaws.
How do I redeem my code?
Buy the bundle from Basepaws and you receive a Dial A Vet activation code. Redeem it at dialavet.com/activate with the code and your mobile number. We verify the number by SMS. That unlocks 30 days of unlimited consults.
How long does access last?
Unlimited video consults last 30 days from activation, not from purchase.
What can the vets help with?
Real vets and vet nurses give general advice and teletriage. Talk through your results with a vet and know what to raise with your regular vet. They do not diagnose or prescribe.
