Question:

Vet administered my cat with OTI E Pack and since then my cat is not hearing and is not eating

I'm really worried and could use some advice. My cat, Whiskers, was recently diagnosed with an ear infection, and the vet gave him an OTI E Pack for treatment. Ever since the visit, a couple of days ago, Whiskers seems to have gone practically deaf, and he's barely touched his food. It's so unlike him because he's usually such a good eater. He's also become pretty lethargic, and I'm not sure if it's from the meds or if something else is going on. I’ve tried different foods and even his favorite treats, but he just sniffs and turns away. Has anyone else experienced this kind of reaction with their pet? Is this normal, or should I be taking him back to the vet? Any insights would really help because I'm starting to freak out a bit. Thanks!

Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that your kitty is having trouble after the OTI E Pack treatment. It’s understandable to be concerned when you notice such changes in behavior.



Sometimes, medications used to treat ear infections can cause temporary hearing issues in cats, especially if there’s residual medication in the ear canal. Typically, this resolves once the medication clears. As for the loss of appetite, it could be related to the ear discomfort or possibly a side effect of the medication.



At home, you can try offering some smelly, enticing foods like canned tuna or warmed-up wet cat food to stimulate their appetite. Also, ensure their resting area is comfortable and peaceful to reduce stress, as stress can further dampen appetite.



Keep an eye out for any signs that might suggest a more serious issue, such as persistent vomiting, diarrhea, or discharge from the ears. If your cat’s not hearing or eating is persistent, or if you notice any worsening of symptoms, it’s important to have them evaluated promptly.
