Question:

Is Tidy Cat unscented and Fresh step unscented good cat litter?

I'm feeling super overwhelmed right now and could really use some advice. We just brought home our very first kitten a few days ago, and we're absolutely over the moon – she’s the cutest little tabby with the most adorable purr. The thing is, we’re hitting our first snag with the litter box situation. We started with a scented litter because it was what some friends recommended, but I'm starting to notice that our kitten seems a bit off every time she uses it, maybe because of the strong smell? I've been looking into unscented options, and Tidy Cat and Fresh Step both have unscented versions. Does anyone have experience with these? Do they really help with odor while not being overwhelming for sensitive little noses? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any recommendations you might have to make our kitty’s experience – and by extension, ours – a bit smoother. Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:

Thanks for reaching out with your question! Choosing the right cat litter is important for both your cat's comfort and your convenience. Both Tidy Cat Unscented and Fresh Step Unscented are popular choices among cat owners. Generally, unscented litters are preferable, especially for sensitive cats, as they are less likely to cause respiratory issues or skin irritations. Also, cats typically prefer fragrances closer to what's natural for them.

Some potential issues you might consider include dust levels and the material from which the litter is made. Dust can irritate a cat’s lungs over time, so choosing a low-dust option is beneficial. Additionally, some cats have preferences for clumping versus non-clumping litter, so you might need to experiment to find what works best for your furry friend.

While at home, ensure you keep the litter box clean by scooping it daily to avoid any litter box aversions or health issues. Monitor your cat for any signs of distress, such as frequent sneezing, coughing, or behavioral changes, as these could indicate a litter preference issue or health concern.

If your cat starts avoiding the litter box, shows signs of discomfort, or if you're unsure about which litter suits your cat best, consider booking a video consult with us at Dial A Vet. We're here to help guide you through any more questions you have!

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
