Help, I don’t know what’s going on! I just opened a new package of Revolution Plus for my cat, Whiskers, and the smell coming from it is unbearable. It seriously reeks like skunk! I’ve never experienced this before with any of Whiskers’ flea treatments, and I’m a bit worried. Is this normal? It’s so pungent that I had to air out the room. Whiskers hates baths, so I really don’t want to have to scrub him clean if this sillage sticks around. Have any of you dealt with this? Could the medication be faulty or has anyone else noticed a strong smell recently? Any advice would be so appreciated right now!
Thanks for reaching out with your question! If you've noticed a skunk-like smell coming from the packaging of Revolution Plus, you're not alone. Sometimes, the packaging or the medication itself can have an unusual odor, which might be surprising but shouldn't cause concern immediately.
The skunk-like smell you're detecting could be due to the ingredients used in the formulation that are designed to protect your pet from parasites. These chemicals can sometimes have strong odors, especially if the packaging has been punctured or compromised during shipping or storage.
At home, ensure that the packaging hasn't been damaged, which might cause the smell to be more noticeable. If it seems intact and the product isn't past its expiration date, it should still be safe to use. However, if you have any doubts, it’s best not to use it until you confirm it's safe.
Watch for any signs of discomfort in your pet, such as itching, redness, or unusual behavior after applying the medication, as these might indicate a reaction.
If the smell is overwhelming or accompanied by unusual packaging conditions, consider booking a video consult with one of our licensed vets through Dial A Vet. They'll be able to advise you on the safe use of your product or need for replacement.
