Dog ate some bolognese sauce

I'm kind of freaking out right now and could really use some advice. This afternoon, my silly Labrador, Max, managed to get into a bowl of leftover bolognese sauce I accidentally left on the counter. I didn't think he could reach it, but clearly, I underestimated his determination and those long legs of his. I'm worried because I know onions and garlic are toxic to dogs, and I'm not entirely sure how much of it he actually ate. He's acting normal, but I keep second-guessing whether I should rush him to the vet or wait to see if he shows any symptoms. Have any of you dealt with something similar? Any advice on what I should do or watch out for would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

It's easy to understand how a curious pup might find their way into some bolognese sauce! Let's chat about what this might mean for your furry friend.

First off, a little bolognese might not be cause for concern, but it's important to consider what's in the sauce. Common ingredients like garlic and onions are toxic to dogs, which can lead to upset stomachs, vomiting, or even more severe symptoms like anemia in larger quantities.

If your dog has only consumed a small amount, monitor them closely for any signs of stomach upset, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water available, and you might want to offer a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice if their tummy seems unsettled.

However, if you notice symptoms like persistent vomiting, weakness, pale gums, or increased heart rate, it could be a sign of a more serious issue requiring veterinary attention.

Keeping track of what and how much they ate can be very helpful if a vet visit becomes necessary.
