I really need some advice and support right now. My sweet kitty, Luna, has been in distress since last night. She's been crying out in pain and it breaks my heart to see her like this. The main issue is that she can't seem to use the bathroom. I noticed she tried several times to go, but nothing happened except more heartbreaking yowls. I’m freaking out because she usually has such a good appetite and never had issues like this before. I don't know if there's something wrong with her bladder or if it’s a severe constipation problem. I plan to take her to the vet first thing in the morning, but if anyone has experienced something similar or has advice on how to make her more comfortable until then, please let me know. I'm feeling really helpless right now.
Hi there, I'm really sorry to hear that your cat is having such a tough time. It sounds like they could be experiencing a urinary issue, which is fairly common in cats. Cats might cry out if they are in pain from trying to urinate or defecate but can't. This could be due to constipation or a urinary blockage, which is more serious and needs quick attention.
For constipation, offering your cat a little bit of canned pumpkin or increasing their water intake can sometimes help get things moving again. Make sure they have access to fresh water and maybe even try a pet water fountain, as running water often encourages more drinking.
However, if your cat is straining and unable to urinate, this could be a sign of a urinary blockage, especially in male cats, which is life-threatening and requires immediate veterinary attention. Other signs of a serious issue include vomiting, lethargy, or a painful abdomen.
I recommend setting up a video consultation with one of our Dial A Vet professionals as soon as possible. They'll be able to guide you through the next steps and help ensure your cat gets the care they need. Take care!
