I'm feeling pretty worried right now and could really use some advice. So, my little Yorkie puppy, Milo, who's just about 6 months old, managed to get into something he definitely shouldn't have. I was cleaning up after dinner and left a strip of Gas-X on the coffee table without thinking, and sure enough, Milo found it. I came back to see him gnawing on the packaging and I'm not sure if he actually ingested any of the pills or just chewed at the pack. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I'm a bit panicked because he’s so small and I’m not sure how sensitive he might be to something like that. Do I rush him to the emergency vet or is there something I should do at home first to make sure he's okay? Any advice would really help calm my nerves right now! Thanks in advance!
Hello there! It sounds like your Yorkie puppy has found something interesting to chew on. Puppies are naturally curious and tend to explore the world with their mouths. While Gas-X is generally not toxic to dogs in small amounts, it’s best to ensure your pup can’t access it again.
There are a few things you should keep an eye on. First, monitor your puppy for any signs of stomach upset, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or a noticeable decrease in appetite. These could indicate irritation from any of the inactive ingredients. If you see these symptoms, make sure to offer small, bland meals like boiled chicken and rice, which can be soothing on the stomach, until your puppy’s digestion normalizes.
On the other hand, if your puppy starts to show signs of more serious concerns like difficulty breathing, extreme lethargy, or continuous vomiting, you should reach out to a vet immediately.
In the meantime, ensure harmful items are kept out of reach, and provide your puppy with safe chew toys to satisfy their natural chewing instincts.
