I’m really in need of some guidance and maybe just a little reassurance. I’ve found myself in a bit of a sticky situation. Over the past few years, my love for cats has slowly turned my home into a bit of a cat haven. Right now, I have 12 wonderful kitties, each with their own unique personalities. They all bring me so much joy, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m worried I might not be able to care for them all like they deserve. I try my best to keep everything clean and make sure they’re happy and healthy, but I’m starting to feel overwhelmed. I’m planning to take one of them to the vet for a check-up soon, and I’m terrified that the vet might report me for having this many cats. I’ve read mixed things online, and I’m worried sick about what could happen. Does anyone have experience with this or know what to expect? I love my furry family and just want what’s best for them. Thanks a lot for any advice you can offer!
Hi there! It's great that you're reaching out with your concern. Most veterinarians are really focused on the well-being of your pets, rather than the number of animals you have. Typically, issues arise when the health and quality of life for any of your cats might be compromised due to overpopulation in the home.
Having multiple cats can be wonderful, but it's important to ensure that each one has enough space, food, and attention as well as access to clean litter boxes and fresh water. Any responsible vet will want to help you provide the best care for your furry family members.
If you're worried about how to manage everything, here are a few tips that might help: Keep a regular cleaning schedule, ensure every cat is spayed or neutered, and make sure each one gets proper veterinary care, including vaccinations and check-ups.
Keep an eye out for signs of stress among your cats, like aggressive behavior or not using the litter box, as these could signal that your current setup isn’t meeting their needs. If you're facing repeated problems, it might be time to rethink how they're living together.
Feel free to book a video consult with us here at Dial A Vet if you need more personal guidance on managing your feline family. We'd love to help ensure everyone is happy and healthy!
The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's
not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely.
For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional.
