Question:

Why she does this ?

I'm really hoping you all can help me out here because I'm at my wits' end. My sweet cat, Luna, has started this really strange behavior, and I just don't get it. She's always been super chill and loving, but lately, she’s been scratching like crazy at the window at all hours of the night. It’s like she sees something out there, but when I check, there’s nothing. It’s not just the scratching; she’s been meowing loudly and pacing back and forth, almost as if she’s anxious or trying to tell me something. I've tried playing with her more to tire her out and even changed her food, thinking it might be diet-related. Nothing seems to be working, and I’m worried there might be something I’m missing. Has anyone gone through something similar or have any advice on what might be going on? I'm desperate for any tips or insights you might have. Thanks in advance!

Answer:

Hello there! It sounds like you might be concerned about a behavior your pet is exhibiting. Pets can do all sorts of things that might seem puzzling to us, from licking their paws obsessively to barking at shadows. Let’s see if we can figure out what’s going on.

First, consider if anything in your pet's environment has changed recently. Pets often react to new routines, visitors, or changes in the household. Stress or anxiety might cause behaviors like excessive licking, hiding, or even aggression.

If it's a physical action, like scratching or chewing at a particular spot, there may be an underlying health issue like a skin irritation, allergies, or pain. Try checking the area for signs of redness or swelling. Keep the area clean and monitor for any changes.

For now, ensure your pet is comfortable, has a regular routine, and plenty of playtime and affection. Healthy engagement can sometimes reduce unusual behaviors.

Watch for any signs of distress such as decreased appetite, lethargy, or any aggressive behavior. These could indicate a more serious issue that requires professional attention.

If you’re worried or the behavior persists, it’s a good idea to consult a vet for tailored advice. Consider scheduling a video consult with one of our vets through Dial A Vet—it's a convenient way to get some expert insights and peace of mind!

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
