I'm really worried about my dog, Max. Over the past two days, I've noticed something strange in his vomit and poop, like these small white stone-like things. The consistency and color of his stools seem normal otherwise, but seeing these things freaked me out a bit. Max is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever, generally healthy, and typically has a hearty appetite. He's been eating his usual kibble, and I haven't changed his diet or given him any new treats recently. The weird part is, he seems totally fine—playing, running around, and no signs of discomfort or pain. I know dogs sometimes eat strange things, but we're pretty careful about what he gets into. I'm attaching some photos in case anyone has seen something similar and can offer some advice. I’m planning to call the vet tomorrow morning, but any thoughts until then would be really appreciated. Thanks so much!
Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out with your concerns. Finding white stones in your pet's vomit and poop can be quite surprising! These could be remnants of something your pet ingested, like a non-food item, or possibly from something they ate that didn't digest well. Pets are naturally curious and sometimes swallow things they shouldn’t, like small gravel or other objects, which can show up as white stones.
In the meantime, monitor your pet to ensure they're acting normally—eating, drinking, playing, and using the bathroom regularly. It's crucial to watch for any signs of distress such as vomiting more frequently, a bloated belly, loss of appetite, or if they seem lethargic or in pain. These can sometimes indicate a blockage in the stomach or intestines, which requires immediate attention.
At home, keep your pet hydrated and maintain their normal diet. Keep an eye on their bathroom habits to ensure nothing changes. If you notice any of the warning signs I mentioned, or if these stones continue to appear, it's best to have a vet check them out.
I'd suggest booking a video consult with Dial A Vet so we can take a closer look at those pictures and discuss the next best steps for your pet's health.
