I’m really hoping for some advice because I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. My golden retriever, Buddy, has started doing something that’s left me scratching my head. Lately, he’s been circling around the living room couch and then just sitting there staring into space for minutes at a time. This isn’t his usual playful self, and I’m worried something might be going on with him. It happens mostly in the evenings, right after his dinner, and it’s like he’s in his own little world. I’ve thought maybe he’s anxious or maybe something in the room is bothering him, but I’m just not sure. Have any of you experienced something similar with your dogs? I’m starting to get a little worried about my little guy and just want to make sure he’s okay. Any insights or advice would really help! Thanks so much!
Hi there! I understand it can be concerning when your dog is doing something puzzling. Dogs can engage in various behaviors, some of which might seem odd to us but are quite normal in doggy terms. For example, if your dog is circling, sniffing, or licking excessively, they might simply be exploring their environment a bit more intensely or seeking comfort.
If you notice unusually frequent scratching, redness, or bumps, this could indicate allergies or skin irritation. Other behaviors, like scooting on the floor, might suggest anal gland issues. Sudden changes in appetite, energy level, or bowel habits also warrant attention.
At home, you can ensure your dog stays comfortable by keeping their environment clean, providing a balanced diet, and ensuring regular exercise. Observing their behavior after any recent diet or routine changes might also give you clues about any issues.
Watch for signs that may indicate a more serious problem: persistent vomiting or diarrhea, difficulty breathing, a noticeable limp, or drastic behavioral changes. These warrant immediate veterinary attention.
