I’m really worried and need some advice. I took my cat, Luna, to the vet yesterday for what I thought was a routine check-up. She's been a little off lately, not eating as much and just not her usual playful self. The vet said they wanted to give her an injection to help, and I assumed it was something like vitamins or a booster shot, so I didn’t question it at the time. When we got home, she seemed really lethargic and a bit wobbly, which is not normal after past vet visits. I tried calling the clinic to find out exactly what was given to her, but they were closing and asked me to call back tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any specific reason why they wouldn't tell me right away? Luna is my world, and I hate seeing her like this without knowing what’s going on. Any insights would be really appreciated!
Hello there! Thanks for reaching out with your question. It sounds like you're concerned about something recently administered to your cat. If your kitty was just at the vet, they may have received a vaccination, an antibiotic, or a sedative, depending on the visit's purpose.
Vaccinations are common and crucial for preventing diseases. Antibiotics might be given to treat or prevent infection, especially after surgery. Sedatives help keep very nervous or aggressive cats calm during exams.
At home, ensure your cat remains comfortable and offer plenty of water, as some injections can cause mild lethargy or discomfort. It's important to watch your cat for any unusual symptoms, like swelling at the injection site, vomiting, diarrhea, or a lack of appetite.
If your cat shows any difficulty breathing, extreme lethargy, or swelling that spreads or worsens, please contact a vet immediately, as these could be signs of an allergic reaction or another serious issue.
If you're still unsure or worried about what was injected, it might be beneficial to check with the vet or clinic directly. For more personalized advice, I recommend booking a video consult with Dial A Vet. We'd be happy to provide further assistance and peace of mind!
