What can I use instead of Hills Urinary C/D for my cats urinary tract issues?

I'm really hoping for some advice or guidance. My cat, Oliver, has been struggling with urinary tract issues for a while now, and his vet had us put him on Hill’s Urinary C/D which seemed to be working wonders, but it’s become almost impossible to get our hands on it lately where I live. I’m feeling desperate because I know how much he needs it. I'm worried this could escalate if we don't find a suitable alternative. Has anyone here had a similar experience or found a good substitute food that helps with these types of issues? I just want to make sure he stays healthy and comfortable, but I feel kind of lost right now. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Answer

Hello there! I'm really glad you reached out about your cat's urinary health, as it's such an important area to keep an eye on. Hills Urinary C/D is specifically formulated to help dissolve struvite stones and support your cat's bladder health. If you're looking for alternatives, it's key to find something that also supports urinary health by controlling mineral levels and encouraging water intake.

One possibility is to look for other therapeutic diets formulated for urinary health. These diets focus on the same principles: maintaining a specific pH and mineral content to prevent crystal and stone formation.

At home, ensure your cat has access to fresh, clean water at all times, as increased hydration can help dilute urine and support bladder health. You might also consider a water fountain, which some cats find more appealing than a still water dish.

Keep an eye out for signs of a serious issue, such as straining to urinate, blood in the urine, frequent urination in small amounts, or if your cat appears to be in pain. These symptoms can indicate a more serious blockage that requires immediate veterinary attention.

To make sure you're choosing the best option for your furry friend, I'd recommend booking a video consult with one of our vets on Dial A Vet. They can provide personalized advice and help you navigate the options available. Take care!
