Hello there,
I can feel your concern coming through, and I'm really sorry you're facing such a tough situation. It's heartbreaking to even think about euthanizing a healthy dog simply because owners want to get rid of it. This isn't something veterinarians typically support or practice since our goal is always to preserve life and promote well-being whenever possible.
If your dog is healthy but you’re considering this option due to behavioral issues, cost, or personal circumstances, there are humane alternatives. Training, behavioral therapy, or reaching out to local rescues and shelters could provide your dog with a new home and the care they deserve.
There are signs that a dog might genuinely be suffering, like chronic pain, severe illness, or diminished quality of life, but if your dog doesn't exhibit these, euthanasia isn't the right path.
If you're contemplating your options or would like to discuss this further, a video consult with a Dial A Vet professional could be incredibly beneficial. They can offer guidance specific to your situation and help you find the best solution for your pet and family.
Take care, and remember that support is just a call away.
Vets- have you ever heard of euthanizing a perfectly healthy dog as a way for the owners to get rid of it?
I'm feeling really upset and confused right now, and I just need some advice or reassurance. A friend of mine recently mentioned a practice that's been weighing heavily on my heart, and it's honestly making me sick to my stomach. Have any of you ever heard of people having their completely healthy dogs put down because they simply no longer want them? I can't even wrap my head around why anyone would do that. My own pup is my world, and I could never imagine making such a heartless decision. Is this something vets actually come across? If so, do they refuse, or is this a thing that sadly happens? I can't stop thinking about how many innocent lives might be lost this way when there are surely other options. Please, if anyone has any insights or similar experiences, could you share them with me? I just want to understand what's going on here and how it can be prevented. Thanks in advance.
