Question:

Something is wrong with my cat and nobody is listening to me

I’m really reaching out because I’m at my wit’s end and could use some advice. My cat, Bella, who is usually a bundle of energy and sass, has been acting super weird lately. She’s always the first one awake in the morning, mewing for her breakfast, but in the past week, she’s been lethargic and disinterested in her food. It even takes her a while to get up from her favorite spot by the window, and she’s just not herself. I’ve taken her to the vet twice now, and each time they brush it off as her being "a little under the weather," but my gut is screaming that something is wrong. They suggest waiting it out, but I’m really worried. Has anyone experienced something similar with their cats? Any advice or thoughts would be really appreciated because I hate seeing my little girl like this.

Answer:

Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling unheard—let's get to the bottom of what's going on with your cat. Cats can be quite good at hiding when they're not feeling well, so I completely understand your concern. Could you tell me more about the symptoms your kitty is experiencing? Common issues can range from changes in appetite and behavior to litter box habits and physical symptoms like sneezing or coughing.

Possible causes for signs of distress in cats could include stress, dietary changes, infections, or even more serious health concerns. For instance, a decrease in eating could suggest dental issues, while excessive grooming might signal skin problems or allergies.

At home, you can try keeping a detailed daily log of your cat’s behavior and symptoms. This will come in handy if a vet visit becomes necessary. Ensure your cat is hydrated and their environment stays calm and consistent.

Please keep an eye out for serious symptoms like persistent vomiting, difficulty breathing, or notable swelling anywhere on their body. These issues usually need immediate veterinary care.

I know how upsetting this can be, and I want to help you get some answers. I recommend scheduling a video consult with one of our vets here at Dial A Vet, so we can take a closer look and advise on the best next steps for your beloved feline friend.

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. By using this forum, you acknowledge these limitations and agree to seek in-person veterinary advice for all your pet's health needs. View our content guidelines.

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

A great fast efficient service with a qualified vet who was lovely and helpful. Thank you Samantha. I was able to sort my dog at 6pm on a Sunday night for $49 - amazing. Highly recommend.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
