Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about your senior pup's fall. It must have been quite a scare for both of you! Falls like this can happen, especially in older dogs, who may have difficulty with their vision, balance, or coordination.
First, gently assess your dog for any obvious injuries, such as cuts, bruises, or limping. Check if he seems disoriented or reluctant to move. Sometimes, falls can lead to sprains, bruises, or even fractures, especially in older dogs whose bones might be more fragile.
At home, try to keep him calm and comfortable. Offer a cozy, quiet space for him to rest, away from any more stairs or other hazards. Avoid giving any medications meant for humans, as these could be harmful. Keep an eye on him for swelling, difficulty breathing, persistent crying, or trouble moving, as these could indicate more serious issues, like internal injuries or significant fractures.
If he seems to be in pain, or if you notice any of these warning signs, it's important to consult a vet as soon as possible. I recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals. They can assess his condition more thoroughly and guide you on the next best steps. Take care!
Senior extremely fragile dog fell down an entire flight of stairs
I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now and could really use some advice. My sweet old buddy, Max, who’s been my companion for over 15 years, just had a scary accident. He’s extremely fragile and I thought I secured everything, but today he somehow tumbled down the entire flight of stairs. My heart sank when I heard the thud. He seems to be in shock but at the same time surprisingly calm, which worries me even more. I’ve carefully checked him for any obvious injuries, but it’s so hard to tell with all his fur. I’m definitely taking him to the vet as soon as possible, but until then, what should I be looking out for? Should I try to keep him awake or more relaxed? Any advice on immediate steps I can take to make sure my old guy is comfortable and safe would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!
