Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear your senior pup is having recurrent UTIs. This can be quite uncomfortable for them, and it's understandable that you're looking for other options to help.
Recurrent UTIs in senior dogs can happen for a few reasons, such as underlying health issues like kidney disease or diabetes, changes in their immune system, or even hormonal changes. Some dogs might also develop bladder stones or tumors, which can contribute to persistent infections.
To help manage at home, make sure your dog always has access to fresh water, as staying hydrated helps flush out their urinary system. A balanced diet that's low in potential irritants can also be beneficial. Keep your pup's bathroom area clean, and consider more frequent potty breaks, as holding urine can exacerbate problems.
Keep an eye out for warning signs such as blood in the urine, straining or crying out while urinating, increased thirst, or lethargy. These could indicate a worsening infection or more serious condition that needs attention.
It may be useful to explore further diagnostic tests with your vet to understand any underlying causes and tailor a preventative approach. I suggest discussing your concerns during a video consult with a Dial A Vet professional for more personalized advice and care options.

Senior dog w recurrent uti...other options?
I'm really hoping to get some advice or guidance here. I have a 12-year-old Labrador named Max, and he's been struggling with recurrent UTIs for the past several months. It's honestly breaking my heart to see him uncomfortable all the time. We’ve been to the vet more times than I can count, and they’ve done all the standard tests and given him antibiotics, but these infections just keep coming back. I'm doing everything I can think of — making sure he drinks enough water, taking him out frequently, even changing his diet to urinary health-focused food, but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else been through this with their elderly dog? I'm open to trying anything that might help my old guy feel better. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or insight you might have.
