Thanks for reaching out about your dog's situation. I completely understand why you're concerned, especially since Proin previously managed her condition effectively. It sounds like there might be an underlying issue that's causing the medication to lose its efficacy.
Proin is typically used to treat urinary incontinence in dogs by strengthening the urethral sphincter. However, there are several reasons why it might not be working as well now. It's possible your dog's condition could be progressing, or she might have developed a tolerance to the medication. Other health issues, such as urinary tract infections, bladder stones, or kidney function changes, could also be at play.
In the meantime, make sure she has regular bathroom breaks to reduce any accidents. Keep a clean and comfortable area for her to rest to prevent skin irritation from any leaks. It might also help to keep an eye on her water intake and ensure she's hydrated but not excessively drinking.
Watch for signs such as blood in the urine, increased drinking, or any behavioral changes, as these could indicate a more serious problem. It's best to get a thorough examination from a vet who can provide specific advice based on her current health status.
I recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals. They can offer tailored advice and determine if any adjustments to her treatment plan are necessary.
Proin regimen for 10 yr spayed female dog, worked and now it doesn't.
I’m really worried about my 10-year-old girl and could use some advice. She’s been on Proin for a little over a year now to help with her incontinence, and it was a total game-changer at first. But lately, like in the past couple of weeks, it seems like it’s not working anymore. I’m noticing little puddles where she sleeps and she seems embarrassed, poor thing. We haven't changed her dosage or anything, so I'm completely baffled. She’s my world, and I just hate seeing her like this. Has anyone else experienced something like this with their dog? What should I do?
