I'm really hoping to get some advice here because I'm starting to worry about my cat, Luna. She's usually such a playful and affectionate kitty, always greeting me at the door with her little meows and purrs. But lately, she's been acting totally different. For the past week or so, she's been hiding a lot under the bed and doesn't seem interested in playing with her favorite toys. She's also been eating less, which is unusual because Luna usually has a huge appetite. I've checked her for any injuries or signs of illness, but I can't find anything. I'm getting really emotional because I hate seeing her like this and I don't know if it's just a phase or if I should be more concerned. Has anyone else experienced something similar with their pet? Any suggestions or advice would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Hello there! It's understandable to be concerned about a change in your pet's behavior. Animals can show behavior changes for a variety of reasons, ranging from health issues to environmental stressors.
Some common causes include pain, illness, or injury. Even if your pet isn’t showing obvious signs of distress, behavior changes can be early indicators of discomfort or sickness. Sometimes, a change in diet, routine, or environment, like a new pet or family member, can also affect their behavior.
At home, try to keep their environment stable and consider any recent changes that might have affected them. Spend extra time with them to observe any other subtle changes. Monitor their appetite, bathroom habits, and energy levels.
Keep an eye out for signs such as lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea, as these might indicate a more serious issue. Persistent or severe symptoms should be addressed by a vet as soon as possible.
If the behavior change persists or you notice any worrying signs, booking a video consult with one of our vets at Dial A Vet could help you get some peace of mind and determine if an in-person vet check-up is necessary. We're here to help you figure things out!
