Help, I'm at my wits’ end here and really need some advice! I have a six-month-old Golden Retriever puppy named Max, and we've been battling a case of parasites for weeks now. The vet diagnosed him with roundworm, and she prescribed Panacur, which I’ve been giving him as directed. At first, it seemed like the meds were working, but then I noticed he still has a bloated belly and that his stool sometimes has these little white, wiggly things in it. I’m religious about cleaning up after him and keeping things sanitized, but I feel like I’m missing something. Max still seems lethargic and isn’t his usual, playful self. Have any of you gone through something like this? Should I be worried it’s not just roundworm, or could it be something else entirely? Could the Panacur not be working, or am I just not giving it enough time? I'm so stressed and just want to see my little furball happy and healthy again. Any suggestions on what to do next? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your question! It sounds like you have some concerns about your puppy and the possibility of parasites. Puppies, with their playful nature, can unfortunately be prone to picking up these pesky critters. Panacur is a common dewormer that's often used to treat different types of parasites like roundworms, hookworms, and some species of tapeworms.
Common signs of a parasite problem in puppies include a bloated belly, diarrhea, vomiting, and even weight loss. Sometimes you might see worms in their stool or around their rear end.
At home, ensure your pup stays as hydrated as possible, especially if they’re showing signs of diarrhea. Offer them small, frequent meals of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and rice, until their tummy settles. It's also a good idea to keep their living area as clean as possible to prevent further contamination.
Keep an eye out for any serious symptoms, like lethargy, persistent vomiting, bloody stools, or severe weight loss, as these might indicate a more significant problem requiring immediate attention.
