I’m really hoping I can get some advice or support here because I’m at my wit’s end. We have this adorable little puppy, Milo, who’s just over five months old. But ever since we brought him home, it feels like he’s been sick more often than not. He’s constantly having tummy issues, and it's rare for us to have more than a couple of calm days before he’s either throwing up or having diarrhea again. We’ve been back and forth to the vet more times than I can count, and while they’ve ruled out anything really serious, nothing seems to be helping long term. We’ve tried changing his diet, but even that hasn’t made a real difference. I’m so worried about him and starting to feel like a terrible pet owner because I just can't seem to make it better. Has anyone been through something similar? Any suggestions would be so appreciated!
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear that your puppy isn’t feeling well. Puppies, like kids, can pick up illnesses easily, so it's actually quite common for them to experience health issues occasionally.
There are several reasons your puppy might be sick frequently. Common causes include dietary indiscretions, like eating something they shouldn't have, or infections — puppies have developing immune systems, so they’re more susceptible to things like parasites, viruses, and bacteria.
At home, ensure your puppy is eating a balanced puppy diet and isn't getting into trash or harmful substances. Maintain a consistent feeding schedule, and try to avoid giving too many treats or human foods that might upset their tiny tummies.
Watch for signs such as persistent vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy, not eating or drinking, and severe dehydration. If you notice these, it can indicate a more serious problem that needs immediate attention.
Keep a close eye on your pup's overall behavior. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s a good idea to consult a vet to rule out any underlying issues. Feel free to book a video consult with one of our vets here at Dial A Vet. We're happy to help get your little furry friend back to feeling better!
