Thanks for reaching out with your question! It’s important to handle medications correctly to ensure your pet's safety and health.
Simparica Trio is a chewable tablet designed to provide a specific dose of medication for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention in dogs. Splitting or grinding up the tablet isn't recommended for several reasons. First, it could lead to an inaccurate dose, which might reduce the effectiveness of the medication or increase the risk of side effects. Also, the medication’s texture and flavor are formulated to make it palatable for dogs, and altering it could make it less appealing.
If your dog is having trouble taking the entire tablet, you could try offering it with a little bit of food or a treat. Just be sure they consume the entire dose.
Keep an eye out for any signs of allergic reactions such as hives, vomiting, or difficulty breathing, as these require immediate veterinary attention.

OK to split ground-up simparica trio?
Help, I’m feeling really conflicted and need some advice. So, I’ve been giving my dog, Max, his usual Simparica Trio for flea and tick prevention, but lately he’s been struggling to swallow it whole. He's a small breed and even the smallest dose seems a bit much for him to handle all at once. I thought about grinding it up and splitting it into smaller doses, maybe mixing it with his food to make it easier for him. But I’m worried splitting the dose might affect its effectiveness or even be unsafe. Has anyone tried this with their dog, or does anyone know if it's okay to do? I just want to make sure Max is protected, but I feel stuck on how to make it work for him. Any insights would be really appreciated!
