My stubborn boy and his hills science diet c/d

I’m really hoping someone can give me some advice about my stubborn little guy, Max. So, he's been on Hill's Science Diet c/d for his urinary health for a while now, but lately, he’s been refusing to eat it. He used to gobble it down, no problem, but now he sniffs it and walks away, giving me those big “you’ve got to be kidding me” eyes. I’ve tried mixing in a bit of wet food, but he’s too smart—he just licks it off and leaves the kibble behind. I’m worried because I know how important it is for him to stay on this diet, but I hate seeing him hungry and cranky. He’s always been a bit picky, but this time it feels like a real standoff. Any tips on how I can get him to eat, or should I be considering alternatives? I could really use some help keeping my furball healthy and happy!

Answer

Hi there! It sounds like your furry companion might be experiencing some issues with his Hill's Science Diet c/d. This specific diet is often used for urinary health, particularly if your pet has a history of urinary tract issues like crystals or stones.

If he's reluctant to eat the food, it could be due to several reasons. Sometimes, a change in flavor or textures can cause pets to be picky. Make sure the food is fresh and stored properly, as stale food can be unappealing.

Try mixing a little bit of warm water with his kibble to enhance the aroma, or gently warm his wet food to make it more enticing. However, if he consistently refuses the food, it could indicate a more serious issue like dental problems, gastrointestinal disturbances, or even stress.

Keep an eye out for symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, or changes in urination, as these could point to underlying health concerns that need immediate attention.

If your boy continues to resist his prescribed diet or if you notice any of these worrying signs, consider arranging a video consult with our team at Dial A Vet. We're here to help assess the situation and provide the best care for your beloved pet.
