I completely understand why you're worried about your pup's health right now. Diarrhea can be distressing, and when test results are conflicting, it can feel even more confusing.
Let's talk about pancreatitis first. It's an inflammation of the pancreas, often triggered by a fatty meal. This condition can cause symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. The abnormal cPL test suggests pancreatitis, which is common in dogs, but sometimes test results can be misleading, or the situation might have improved or changed by the time the ultrasound was done.
Given that the ultrasound shows a different picture, it might be worth looking into other potential causes of diarrhea. These can include dietary indiscretions, food intolerances, infections, or even stress.
At home, feeding a bland diet like boiled chicken and rice in small, frequent portions can help soothe the digestive system. Ensure your dog stays hydrated—offer fresh water often.
Watch for serious signs like severe lethargy, vomiting, a swollen abdomen, blood in stool, or if your dog seems in pain. These would be good reasons to seek more immediate help.
Consider booking a video consult with Dial A Vet to talk through the specifics of your pet’s condition and clarify any questions with a vet who's reviewed all test results. That way, you can get a more comprehensive understanding and the best plan moving forward for your furry friend.
My dog's been having 2 weeks diarrhea and cPL shows abnormal, vet said she has pancreatitis. Hospital ultrasound shows different!
I’m really lost and stressed out right now with what’s happening to Bella. She’s been having diarrhea on and off for the past two weeks, and it’s just been getting worse. Our vet ran some tests, and her cPL came back abnormal, so they thought it might be pancreatitis. But just yesterday, we took her to the animal hospital for an ultrasound, hoping to get more answers, and they’re saying it doesn’t look like pancreatitis at all. I’m so confused and don’t know what to believe. She’s such a gentle soul and usually so full of energy, but lately, she’s just not herself at all. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I’m really worried about her and could use any advice or stories from people who’ve been through something like this.
