Hello there! I understand how concerning it can be when our furry friends get into things they shouldn’t. Dogs can be curious and it's not uncommon for them to investigate wildlife. If your dog has found a dead rabbit, the most important thing right now is to ensure they haven’t swallowed any parts of it, as this can pose a risk.
Dead animals can sometimes carry bacteria or parasites, so keep an eye on your pup for any signs of gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting or diarrhea. If you notice these signs, keep your dog hydrated and avoid giving them food for a few hours to let their stomach settle.
Also, pay attention to any symptoms like lethargy, loss of appetite, or a change in behavior, which could indicate something more serious. It’s a good idea to wash their paws and face, too, to remove any potential contaminants.
If in doubt, especially if your dog starts showing worrying symptoms or if you suspect they might have ingested part of the rabbit, it’s best to get them checked out by a vet. My Dog Found a Dead Rabbit
I'm honestly feeling a bit rattled and could use some advice. So, here's what happened: this morning, while I was letting my dog Max roam around the backyard during his usual playtime, he ran over to a corner of the yard and came back with something in his mouth. To my horror, it was a dead rabbit. I'm not even sure how it got there or if it's been in our yard since yesterday. I'm worried because I know Max had it in his mouth for a good minute or two before I could get him to drop it. I'm really concerned about diseases or parasites he might have come into contact with. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Should I be rushing off to the vet immediately, or am I overreacting? I'm super stressed and would really appreciate any guidance on what steps to take next. Thanks a ton in advance!
