I'm really hoping for some advice here. I recently put a Seresto collar on my furball, Luna, to help with the endless battle against fleas. A week later, I noticed that her beautiful white fur around the neck area is now turning kind of a weird yellowish-brown color. I'm freaking out a bit, because I love her soft white coat and it was one of the reasons I fell in love with her. Has anyone else experienced this with a Seresto collar? Is this something that's temporary, or am I dealing with a long-term stain? I tried gently washing the fur with water, but it didn’t seem to help much. I'm worried about using any products because what if it makes things worse? Any suggestions on how to get rid of the discoloration would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, y'all!
Hello there! It's understandable to be concerned about any changes in your cat's appearance, especially those unexpected fur stains from a Seresto collar. This is something that can occasionally happen due to the collar rubbing against your cat's fur, sometimes causing a slight discoloration.
Generally, this isn't harmful and should diminish over time. You can gently wash the affected area with a mild, pet-friendly shampoo and warm water to help lighten the stain. Just be sure to thoroughly rinse out all the shampoo so your kitty doesn’t ingest any when grooming.
Keep an eye on your cat for any signs of skin irritation, such as redness, swelling, or excessive scratching, since these could indicate a reaction to the collar. If you notice these symptoms, it would be best to remove the collar and speak with a vet right away.
If the discoloration persists or if you're worried about other symptoms, it might be a good idea to book a video consultation with us on Dial A Vet. We can help evaluate your kitty’s specific situation and offer further advice. Take care!
