Help, I'm really worried about my cat, Jasper. Out of nowhere, I noticed these weird bubble-like things in his left eye, and I have no idea what they are. They're small and kind of clear, almost like tiny blisters. He's not acting differently, still his usual playful self, but every time I see him blink, my mind races to worst-case scenarios. I've never seen anything like this and I'm getting anxious thinking it might be something serious. I'm planning on calling the vet, but I wanted to see if any of you have experienced something similar with your pets. Any ideas on what it could be or if there's a way to help him until I can get to the vet? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Thanks for reaching out with your concern about your cat's eye. It sounds like those bubbles in your cat’s left eye might be what we call "conjunctival cysts" or possibly other issues like corneal viral infections or trauma. Conjunctival cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form in the thin membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. They can occur due to various reasons, including past injuries, infections, or just spontaneously.
While these bubbles might look concerning, they're not always an emergency. Sometimes, they might resolve on their own. However, it’s crucial to monitor your cat for any signs of discomfort or worsening symptoms. Watch for increased tearing, redness, discharge, your cat squinting excessively, or any changes in behavior that suggest pain or vision problems. These signs could indicate a more serious underlying condition like an infection, glaucoma, or a corneal ulcer, which would require a veterinarian’s attention.
At-home care includes gently wiping away any discharge with a soft, damp cloth and ensuring that your cat avoids irritating the eye further by rubbing it. However, avoid applying any over-the-counter drops unless recommended by a vet.
