Thank you for reaching out about your cat's ongoing diarrhea. Persistent diarrhea in cats can be concerning and might be due to several underlying issues. Common causes include dietary sensitivities, intestinal parasites, infections, or more chronic conditions like inflammatory bowel disease or hyperthyroidism.
For a safe at-home approach, consider the following: ensure your cat has access to fresh water at all times to prevent dehydration. A bland diet, like boiled chicken or rice in small portions, might help settle their stomach temporarily. However, make sure any dietary changes are gradual to avoid further upset.
Watch for warning signs such as significant weight loss, lethargy, vomiting, blood in the stool, or if the diarrhea persists beyond a couple of days despite dietary changes. These signs might indicate a more serious issue that warrants immediate veterinary attention.
Given the long-term nature of your cat's diarrhea, it’s best to consult with a veterinarian to determine the root cause and provide specific guidance. I encourage you to book a video consult through Dial A Vet. A vet can discuss your cat’s medical history in detail and might recommend diagnostic tests or treatments to help your kitty feel better soon.
Long-term cat diarrhea. What do I do at this point?
I’m feeling completely overwhelmed and out of options here. My sweet tabby, Luna, has been struggling with persistent diarrhea for what feels like forever, and I just don't know what to try anymore. We've visited the vet multiple times, she's been on prescription diets, probiotics, and even a couple of medications, but nothing seems to work. She's still her playful self, but I'm so worried about her health and hydration. I make sure she always has access to fresh water, but can't help but feel I’m missing something. Has anyone else gone through something similar with their kitty? What finally worked for you? I’m desperate for any advice or insights. Thank you!
