Question:

kitten (f) too weak 3days after sterilization

I'm really worried about my little Luna and could use some advice. She had her spay surgery three days ago, and I thought everything was going well. But since yesterday, she’s been super lethargic and doesn't seem interested in food, which is so unlike her. She's normally a little ball of energy, but now she just lies around and barely meows. I checked her incision, and it looks clean, but she's just not herself. She'll drink if I bring the water to her, but that’s about it. Has anyone else’s cat been this tired post-surgery this far out? I'm really starting to panic, and I’m not sure if this is normal recovery or if something might be wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated — I just want to make sure my fur baby is okay.

Answer:

Hello there,

I’m sorry to hear that your kitten isn’t feeling her best after her surgery. It’s not uncommon for kittens to be a bit lethargic or have a reduced appetite for a day or two after being spayed, but if she seems unusually weak three days later, it’s good to pay attention.

There are a few possibilities here. She might just be taking longer to recover, especially if the surgery was complicated or if she’s a naturally more sensitive kitty. On the other hand, she could be experiencing pain, dehydration, or even an infection at the surgery site.

At home, you can help by ensuring she stays hydrated and eats small, nutritious meals. Keep her environment calm and stress-free, and monitor the incision site for any redness, swelling, or discharge—these can indicate an infection.

Watch for signs such as persistent vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to eat, or changes in breathing. These symptoms can mean it’s time for a vet visit, as they could point to a more serious issue.

If her condition doesn’t improve soon or if you’re worried, I would recommend booking a video consult with us at Dial A Vet. We can take a closer look and guide you on the best next steps to help your little one feel better.

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
