Question:

Just wanted to give an update on my dog- he survived!

I just wanted to share some really great news with all of you who were so supportive during my dog's recent health scare. After what felt like the longest and most stressful few days of my life, I'm beyond relieved to say he pulled through! Earlier this week, he suddenly stopped eating and became really lethargic, which totally freaked me out. It turns out he had a severe case of pancreatitis. After rushing him to the vet and spending a few nerve-wracking nights watching his every move, he finally turned a corner. I can’t express how grateful I am for all the advice and comforting words you shared with me, especially when I felt so helpless. He’s still on a special diet and taking some meds, but he’s starting to act like his old, playful self again. If any of you have tips for post-recovery care or keeping his diet right, I'd love to hear them. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Answer:

I'm so glad to hear your dog is doing better! That's wonderful news. It's always a relief when our furry friends pull through challenging times. While you must be feeling a great sense of relief, it's important to keep an eye on him to ensure he's continuing to recover smoothly.

Depending on what your dog went through, whether it was an illness, surgery, or an accident, there are a few general things you might want to monitor. Make sure he's eating and drinking well, as loss of appetite can be a sign of ongoing discomfort or other underlying issues. Keep an eye on his energy levels too; he should gradually return to his usual self.

Check his body for any signs of pain or discomfort, such as limping, excessive licking of a particular area, or changes in behavior like restlessness or irritability. Watch for any vomiting, diarrhea, or breathing difficulties, as these could indicate a more serious problem needing immediate attention.

Some gentle at-home care tips include providing a cozy, quiet place for him to rest, ensuring he's staying hydrated, and offering his regular, gentle meals. If any new symptoms arise or if he seems off in any way, it would be a good idea to get a professional's perspective.

Please consider booking a video consult with Dial A Vet, so we can discuss any specific concerns and ensure your pup continues to thrive.

  Book A Vet Consultation
The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. By using this forum, you acknowledge these limitations and agree to seek in-person veterinary advice for all your pet's health needs. View our content guidelines.

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
