I think my cat drank some of the redbull i spilled while i wasnt in the room

I'm really freaking out right now and need some advice. I left the room for just a moment, and when I came back, I noticed my Red Bull can tipped over on the floor. There's a small puddle of it, and I think my cat, Whiskers, might've lapped some of it up. I'm not entirely sure, but he's been extra hyper since then, sprinting around the house like a rocket. Normally, he's playful, but this is on a whole other level. What do I do? Is it dangerous? Should I try to get him to the vet ASAP or give him water? I've tried searching for info but keep getting mixed answers, and I'm really worried. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer

Thanks for reaching out with your concern. It's understandable to feel worried when something like this happens. Energy drinks like Red Bull contain caffeine, which can be harmful to cats even in small amounts.

If your cat consumed some of the drink, you might notice symptoms like restlessness, increased heart rate, or unusual hyperactivity. In more severe cases, symptoms could include vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, or seizures.

For now, it's a good idea to monitor your cat closely. Make sure they have access to fresh water and a quiet place to rest. Minimizing stress and environmental stimulation can help if they're feeling jittery. However, if you notice any of the more severe symptoms, I recommend you seek veterinary attention immediately, as these could indicate caffeine toxicity and may require medical intervention.

Since you aren't sure how much was consumed, it's always better to err on the side of caution. If your cat's behavior changes or if you're just feeling uneasy, scheduling a video consult with one of our vets at Dial A Vet might be the best next step. We're here to help you ensure your furry friend is safe and sound!
