Question:

How often can I give my dog Panacur C (fenbendazole)?

I'm really stressed out and could use some advice. My golden retriever, Max, has been dealing with a pesky parasite situation, and it's really taking a toll on both of us. I recently got some Panacur C (fenbendazole) recommended by the vet, but I'm a bit confused about the frequency of dosage. I know the instructions say something, but I want to be absolutely sure because I don't want to overdo it and harm my pup, nor do I want to leave him without enough treatment. He's been itching more than usual and seems less playful, which breaks my heart because Max is usually so energetic and happy. Has anyone else been through this, and how often did you find it safe to administer the medication? I just want to make certain I'm doing the right thing for my fur baby. Any advice would be so appreciated!

Answer:

Hi there! It's great that you're being proactive about your dog's health. Panacur C, with fenbendazole as its active ingredient, is a broad-spectrum dewormer commonly used to treat gastrointestinal parasites in dogs. Typically, it's administered once daily for 3 consecutive days. However, the specific dosage and frequency can vary based on your dog's weight, age, and particular health needs. It's always best to consult with your vet to ensure your pup is getting the right dose.

As for at-home tips, make sure you're giving the correct amount by weighing your dog accurately and mixing the medication thoroughly with their food to ensure they ingest it all. Keep an eye out for any side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, or lack of appetite. These might happen occasionally and are generally mild, but if they persist, it’s a good idea to get in touch with a vet.

If your dog shows any signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately as these could indicate a serious issue.

If you're unsure about the dosage or have any concerns regarding your dog's health, it's always best to talk things through with a professional. Consider booking a video consult with one of our vets at Dial A Vet, who can provide personalized advice for your furry friend!

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
