How long to see a difference after b-12 supplementation cat?

I feel like I’m on an emotional rollercoaster right now and am desperately seeking advice. My sweet, little fluffball, Oliver, has been diagnosed with a vitamin B-12 deficiency. The vet recommended B-12 supplements, and I've faithfully started them about ten days ago. I'm just so anxious because I haven’t noticed any significant changes yet. He’s still quite lethargic and not really himself, and I’m getting worried. How long does it usually take to see any improvements? I’m trying to be patient, but it’s so hard watching him struggle through his days. Am I doing something wrong, or should I just hang in there a bit longer?

Answer

Thanks for your question! It’s great that you're looking into ways to improve your cat's health. After starting B-12 supplementation, you might begin to see some improvements in your cat's condition within a week, but it can vary depending on the specific health issue being addressed.

B-12, also known as cobalamin, is often used for issues like digestive disorders, lack of appetite, and certain types of anemia. If your cat was diagnosed with a deficiency, supplementation can lead to better energy levels, improved appetite, and a healthier coat. However, it might take a few weeks for full effects to manifest.

At home, ensure your cat continues to eat a balanced diet and has access to fresh water. Monitor their behavior and energy levels closely. While small improvements can be expected fairly quickly, if you don’t notice any change within a couple of weeks, or if your cat shows signs like continued lethargy, significant weight loss, vomiting, or diarrhea, it would be best to consult a vet.

I recommend booking a video consult with Dial A Vet to discuss your cat's progress and any other concerns you might have. This will help ensure your furry friend gets the best possible care.
