Help! I'm really worried about my dog and hoping for some advice. For the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that Max, my Labrador, has been having some tummy issues. He's been on Hill's Science Diet for years and never had a problem, but recently he's been having diarrhea and seems more lethargic than usual. I heard there might be a formula change with his usual food, but I'm not sure if that's true or if we just ended up with a bad batch. I've checked to make sure we’re feeding him the right amount and nothing else in his diet has changed. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I try switching his food to something else, or reach out to Hill’s for clarification? I’m really starting to worry about him. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out with your question. If you've noticed a change in your pet's response to their Hill's Science Diet, it could be due to a recent formula change or, less commonly, a bad batch.
Pet food companies occasionally update their recipes to improve nutrition, which can alter taste or digestibility from your pet’s perspective. However, a bad batch is rare due to stringent quality controls.
If your pet has a decreased appetite, seems upset after meals, or is experiencing digestive issues like gas, diarrhea, or vomiting after eating their regular food, this could signal that they're sensitive to the new formula or there is a minor issue with the batch.
To ease this transition, consider gradually mixing in their current food with a different brand or a bland diet, like boiled chicken and rice, to help stabilize their digestion. Make sure they stay hydrated and keep an eye on any new symptoms.
Watch for signs of serious trouble, such as persistent vomiting, severe diarrhea, lethargy, or any signs of distress. If these occur, please consult a veterinarian as soon as possible.
