Growth on Stray Cats nose

Help, I’m really worried about a stray cat that I’ve been feeding for a few months. This sweet little kitty has become such a regular, and I've grown quite attached to her. She used to be in pretty good health, but recently I noticed a strange growth on her nose. At first, I thought it was just a scratch from being outdoors or maybe an insect bite, but it’s been getting larger over the past few weeks. It’s about the size of a small bean now, and it doesn’t seem to bother her too much, but I can’t help but worry. I’m not really sure what it could be or if I should try to catch her and take her to a vet. Has anyone else experienced something like this with a stray? I really want to help her, but I’m not sure what the best course of action is.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out with your concern about the stray cat and their nose.

Finding a growth on a cat’s nose can be concerning, and it's great that you're looking out for this little one. There are a few possibilities for what this growth could be. It could be an insect bite, a harmless cyst, or possibly a wart. These are typically benign, but it's important to monitor them. Sometimes, infections can cause lumps due to bacteria or fungi. More seriously, it could also be a tumor, although that's less common.

For now, you can keep a close eye on it at home. Make sure the area stays clean. Gently wipe it with a damp cloth if it's dirty but avoid applying any ointments without guidance. Look for any signs of change, like an increase in size, color changes, or if it starts to bleed or ooze, as these could indicate something more serious.

Also, keep an eye on the cat’s general health: eating habits, energy levels, or any signs of pain or discomfort.

If you notice any worrying signs, or if the growth starts to trouble the cat, booking a video consultation with one of our vets is a great next step. They can assess the situation more closely and advise on any necessary treatments. Remember, we're here to help whenever you need!
