Hi there! I totally understand that finding a bump on your cat can be worrisome, but let's take a deep breath together and go over what this might mean. Cats can develop bumps for a variety of reasons, and many of them are not immediately serious.
Common causes of a bump on your cat can include things like abscesses from minor injuries or scrapes, benign cysts, allergic reactions, or even small benign tumors. It's important to gently check the bump. Is it soft or hard? Is it growing quickly? Does it seem to irritate your cat?
While monitoring the bump, you can also keep your cat a bit more comfortable. Make sure they're not licking or scratching the area excessively, as that can cause irritation. Applying a warm, damp cloth gently over the area might soothe it if your cat allows.
Keep an eye out for signs like rapid growth, discharge, changes in color, or if your cat seems in pain or is not acting like themselves. If you notice these signs, it's important to take action.
I recommend booking a video consult with one of our veterinarians on Dial A Vet for a more detailed evaluation. They'll be able to guide you on the next best steps and help ease your mind.
Found bump on my cat & am currently freaking out, what could it be?
I really need some advice and maybe even just a little reassurance. I was playing with Luna, my 3-year-old tabby, tonight and noticed a small, firm bump under her skin near her right shoulder blade. I freaked out, to be honest. It felt kind of smooth and it doesn’t seem to be bothering her, but I can't help thinking the worst. She’s still her usual playful self and eating fine, but my anxiety is through the roof. I've Googled a million things, which hasn't exactly helped calm me down. I'm planning to call the vet first thing in the morning, but until then, can anyone share if they've had a similar experience? What was it for your furry friend? Any advice on what to do until I can get a professional opinion would be super appreciated. Thank you!
