Thanks for your question. It sounds like your cat might be exhibiting some unusual behaviors, and I can understand why that would be concerning, especially given their history of epilepsy. Cats with epilepsy can sometimes have seizure episodes that manifest in strange ways, such as going still or appearing dazed, which might explain the “acting as a plant” behavior.
These episodes can occur due to triggers like stress, changes in environment, or not receiving their medication regularly. It's essential to ensure they're getting their antiepileptic medication as prescribed and try to keep their routine as stable as possible.
At home, you can help by creating a calm environment. Soft lighting and minimizing loud noises can make a big difference. Additionally, keep a record of these episodes—note their duration and any potential triggers, which will be helpful for your vet.
Watch for more severe symptoms such as prolonged or frequent seizures, significant behavior changes, or any loss of consciousness. Such signs indicate a need for immediate veterinary attention.
I recommend booking a video consult with Dial A Vet so we can discuss your cat's specific situation more thoroughly and adjust their treatment plan if necessary. This will ensure your feline friend stays happy and healthy!
Epileptic cat acts as a plant
Help, I don’t know what's happening with my cat, Milo, and I’m really worried. He's been having seizures for a while now, and we’re working with the vet to manage them with medication. However, lately, I've noticed something odd and almost funny if it weren't so concerning. After his episodes, he lies completely still, stretching out in the sunlight, for hours on end, almost like he’s absorbing energy from the sun. He doesn’t move except to reposition slightly as the light shifts. At first, I thought he was just enjoying the warmth, but it seems to be more than that. It's almost like he turns into a little plant, just soaking it all up. I’m not sure if this is normal behavior post-seizure or if I should be even more concerned. He doesn’t eat or drink until what feels like forever. Has anyone experienced something similar with their cats? Is the sunbathing a coping mechanism or something I need to address with the vet? Help me out, I’m lost here!
