I'm really at a loss here and could use some advice or support. My sweet Labrador, Max, has been struggling with chronic pancreatitis for a while now, and despite following the vet's recommendations to a tee, nothing seems to be improving. We've adjusted his diet to specialized low-fat meals and stuck to a strict feeding schedule, but he still has bouts of vomiting and seems to be in pain often. We've gone through several rounds of medication, but they just don't seem to be doing the trick. It's absolutely heartbreaking to see him so uncomfortable, and I'm getting really worried that his quality of life is declining. Has anyone else dealt with this? Are there any other treatments or holistic approaches that might help bring him some relief? I'm really desperate to see my boy happy and healthy again. Thanks in advance for any advice or shared experiences.
Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear that your furry friend is having a tough time with chronic pancreatitis. It’s understandably concerning when their condition isn’t improving as we hope. Chronic pancreatitis can be quite challenging, as it involves persistent inflammation of the pancreas, often causing abdominal pain, vomiting, and loss of appetite.
Several factors could contribute to a lack of improvement. It might be related to dietary issues, such as eating foods that are too high in fats. Stress and other underlying health problems, like diabetes or liver disease, could also play a role.
At home, you can help by sticking to a low-fat, easily digestible diet recommended by your vet. Ensuring your dog maintains a healthy weight and providing plenty of water can be beneficial. Avoid table scraps and monitor any treats for fat content.
Please be on the lookout for any signs that the condition might be worsening. If your dog experiences severe vomiting, extreme lethargy, or significant abdominal pain (indicated by whining or restlessness), it could warrant immediate veterinary attention.
To get a clearer picture and updated guidance tailored for your dog, I recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet experts. They’ll help you navigate the next best steps for your pet’s care.
Take care, and be sure to reach out if you need more help!
