Hello there!
I'm glad you reached out about your dog's little scrape. It sounds like she's gotten into a bit of mischief! When dogs scrape their lips and chin, it's usually because they've brushed against something rough or sharp while playing or exploring. These areas can be sensitive but typically heal well on their own.
For at-home care, you can gently clean the area with warm water and a mild, pet-safe soap to remove any dirt and reduce the risk of infection. Make sure to pat it dry with a clean cloth. You might want to keep an eye on her while she heals to prevent her from scratching or licking the area excessively, as this can delay healing and lead to infection.
Watch for signs like redness, swelling, pus, or a bad odor, as these can indicate an infection that might need veterinary attention. If her playfulness decreases, or she seems to be in pain or uncomfortable, that's a signal to take a closer look.
It's always a good idea to consult a vet if you're unsure, especially if she seems distressed or if the scrape doesn't improve. I recommend scheduling a video consult with one of our vets at Dial A Vet to ensure she's on the mend and to address any further concerns you might have. They'll be able to give you tailored advice and peace of mind.
Take care, and I hope your pup feels better soon!
Dog scraped her lip and under her chin.
I really need some advice or reassurance because I'm kind of freaking out about my dog, Luna. Earlier today, while we were at the park, she took a nasty tumble chasing after her ball. After we got home, I noticed she scraped her lip and the area under her chin pretty badly. It's not bleeding too much, but it looks really raw and red, and she's been trying to lick it which I’m sure isn’t helping. I’ve cleaned it gently with warm water, but I’m worried about it getting infected and I’m unsure what else I should do. Should I apply some sort of ointment or just let it be? She seems okay otherwise, just a bit more subdued than usual. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I’m trying not to panic, but she’s my baby and I hate seeing her in any kind of discomfort. Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated!
