Help, what do I do? My dog just had surgery a few days ago, and I’ve been trying to keep up with his post-op care exactly like the vet said, but now I’m panicking a bit. This morning when I checked the incision, it looked kind of red and swollen, and it feels warmer to the touch than before. He’s also been more sluggish today, sleeping more than usual, even for him. I’m so worried—is this normal healing, or something I should be freaking out about? It doesn’t help that he’s started licking the area whenever I’m not looking, and I’m terrified he’s going to make it worse. I’m really unsure if this is just part of recovering or if it’s something serious and I should call the clinic, so I could really use some advice!

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's
not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely.
For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. By using this forum, you acknowledge these limitations and agree to seek in-person veterinary advice for all your pet's health needs. View our
