Dog is very nauseous and low appetite after anti nausea shot at the vet and after Entyce

I'm really worried about my dog, Baxter. We just got back from the vet a couple of days ago because he was throwing up a lot, and they gave him an anti-nausea shot. They also prescribed Entyce to help with his appetite, but it's been almost two days now, and he still refuses to eat his favorite food and seems so lethargic. I thought the meds would help, but I'm honestly feeling so helpless seeing him like this. He's usually such a happy pup, and now he just seems so sad and uncomfortable. Has anyone else experienced something like this with their dog? Is this normal, or should I be calling the vet again? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm really stressed out here.

Answer

Thanks for reaching out with your concern. It sounds like your dog is having quite a tough time, and I’m here to help.

The nausea and low appetite you’re observing might be due to several factors. Sometimes, even after receiving an anti-nausea injection or medications like Entyce (which stimulates appetite), it can take a little time for all systems to return to normal. This setback could be due to the underlying condition that initially prompted these treatments, or possibly, a mild reaction to the medications themselves.

At home, you can make your dog more comfortable by offering small, bland meals like boiled chicken and rice. Ensure they stay well-hydrated by providing fresh water frequently. Sometimes, hand-feeding can also stimulate their appetite and provide comfort.

Watch for any concerning signs like vomiting, diarrhea, excessive lethargy, or a complete refusal to eat or drink, as these could indicate a more serious issue that needs immediate attention.

Rest assured, we’re here to guide you. If your dog's symptoms persist or worsen, it's a good idea to book a video consult with us at Dial A Vet. That way, we can assess the situation more thoroughly and provide you with tailored advice.
