Hello there! I'm really sorry to hear that your dog is having trouble standing or walking after taking medication. This can be concerning, and I'm here to help you understand what might be happening.
There are several reasons a dog might experience difficulty walking after taking medication. Some medications can cause drowsiness or weakness, leading to instability. It's also possible that your dog may be experiencing a rare side effect or an allergic reaction. Occasionally, there could be an underlying condition that has surfaced coincidentally after starting the medication.
For now, ensure your dog is safe and comfortable. Provide a soft, quiet space where they can rest. Encourage them to drink water to stay hydrated, but avoid forcing them to move around if they're uninterested or reluctant.
Keep an eye out for additional symptoms such as vomiting, panting, difficulty breathing, swelling, or if their condition worsens. These could indicate a serious problem requiring immediate veterinary attention.
To better address your concerns, I recommend scheduling a video consult with one of us here at Dial A Vet. This will allow us to evaluate your pet's situation thoroughly and provide tailored advice on whether it's safe to continue the medication or if adjustments are necessary. We're here to support you and your furry friend every step of the way.
Dog can't stand or walk after taking medications
I really need some advice or reassurance because I’m at my wit’s end and incredibly worried about my dog, Charlie. We recently took him to the vet because he wasn’t feeling his usual energetic self and they prescribed medication for what they said might be mild arthritis. Since starting the medication a couple of days ago, though, things have taken a turn for the worse. He’s now struggling to stand up at all, and he can barely walk. It’s like his legs just give out from under him. He used to love running around the yard, and now he just looks at me with these sad eyes like he doesn’t understand what’s happening to him. I called the vet, but they didn’t seem overly concerned and just said to monitor him. I’m really freaking out over here, and I’m scared I made a mistake giving him these meds. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their dog? Any advice or similar experiences would really help right now. Thanks in advance!
