I'm honestly freaking out a bit and could use some advice. So my mischievous Labrador, Max, somehow got into the medicine cabinet this morning. I usually keep it tightly shut, but I must've been too groggy to notice it wasn't fully closed after grabbing my vitamins. Anyway, he managed to chow down an entire bottle of bladder control supplements that I got for my senior cat. The vet's office is closed today, and although there's an emergency line, I'm trying to avoid unnecessary panic. Max seems fine right now, just his usual hyper self, but I'm worried about what these might do to him. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I induce vomiting, or is there a chance it won't affect him too badly? Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated, because I’m freaking out and feel like the worst dog mom right now. Thanks a lot.
Oh dear, I understand how worrying it can be when your pup gets into something they shouldn't! Eating a whole jar of bladder control supplements could potentially cause some issues, depending on the ingredients and the dosage your dog ingested.
Common ingredients in these supplements might include herbs, vitamins, or even hormones designed to support bladder health. While some ingredients may pass through their system without causing harm, others could lead to gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting or diarrhea. Rarely, large doses might affect the bladder or kidneys, but this is less common.
At home, keep an eye on your pup for any signs of distress. Watch for symptoms like persistent vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst or urination, and lethargy. If your dog seems uncomfortable, is panting heavily, or appears to have abdominal pain, it’s important to seek veterinary care immediately, as these could be signs of an adverse reaction.
In the meantime, ensure they have access to plenty of fresh water to help flush their system. You might also encourage rest and observe their behavior closely over the next couple of days.
