Question:

Does this X-Ray look okay to you? Cat has been limping from front-left for 2 weeks, but we won't get definitive answers from vet for a couple days

I'm really worried and could use some advice. My poor kitty, Milo, has been limping on his front-left leg for the past two weeks, and I feel so helpless watching him struggle. We took him to the vet, and they did an X-ray, but we won't get a definitive answer for a couple of days. I attached a pic of the X-ray, and I'm just wondering if anyone who's been through something similar might have some insights. I don't want to overreact, but I'm also scared of not doing enough. He’s been a bit more lethargic than usual and mostly just wants to nap, which isn’t like him. Any thoughts on what this could mean or how I can make him more comfortable until we know for sure? I’d really appreciate any suggestions or experiences you might be able to share. Thanks!

Answer:

Hi there! I understand how concerned you must be about your cat’s limping, especially while waiting for more information from the vet. While I can't examine the X-Ray myself in this format, I can offer some guidance based on your description of the symptoms.

Limping in cats can result from several issues such as a soft tissue injury, like a sprain or strain, or something more serious like a fracture. Cats can also limp due to arthritis, particularly in older cats, or conditions affecting the paw, such as a wound or foreign object stuck in it.

For now, try to minimize your cat's physical activity by restricting access to stairs or high furniture where they might jump. Ensure they're resting comfortably and consider applying a gentle, warm compress to the affected area for a few minutes, assessing their comfort level closely.

Keep a careful eye out for any signs of worsening pain, such as swelling, prolonged limping without improvement, or changes in behavior, appetite, or grooming habits. If you notice any of these signs or if your cat seems to be in severe distress, it's crucial to seek immediate veterinary attention.

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
