Help, what do I do? I've been giving my dog, Max, Shed-X for a few weeks now because he's been shedding like crazy, but I'm not really noticing any change. I'm not sure if I'm using it right or if I should be seeing results by now. He's a five-year-old Golden Retriever and this shedding has been awful for the past couple of months, way more than usual. I brush him regularly and make sure his diet's pretty consistent, so I thought the fish oil would help. It’s stressing me out finding hair everywhere, and I’m worried I’m not doing enough or maybe there's something else going on I’m missing. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I stick it out a bit longer, or is there another supplement that works better?
Thanks for reaching out — it sounds like you're doing your best to support your pet's health. When it comes to shedding, fish oil supplements like Shed-X can be beneficial as they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which promote healthy skin and coat. Sometimes, if you're not seeing the desired results, it might be worth trying a different supplement to see if your pet responds better to a different balance or formulation of omega-3s.
Possible causes of excessive shedding can include seasonal changes, stress, poor nutrition, or underlying health issues. It's important to ensure your pet's diet is balanced and that they are not experiencing any added stress.
For at-home care, consider grooming your pet regularly to remove loose hair and stimulate the skin. A gentle brush can help distribute natural oils throughout their coat, potentially reducing shedding. Additionally, ensure your pet has access to plenty of fresh water, as dehydration can affect their skin and coat health.
Watch for signs such as bald patches, skin redness, excessive itching, or sores, as these might indicate a more serious condition that requires medical attention.
