CBD and/ or THC oil for dog with cancer

I’m really at a loss and could use some advice. My sweet Labrador, Daisy, has been diagnosed with cancer, and it breaks my heart to see her in discomfort. I’ve heard about people using CBD or even THC oil to help manage their pets’ pain, but I’m so confused and overwhelmed about how to even begin with this. Is it safe? Are there side effects I should be worried about? We’ve been up late the past few nights trying to ease her restlessness, and I can’t stand seeing her like this anymore. If anyone has experience or tips, I’d really appreciate your input. It's all so much to take in right now, and I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for her.

Answer

Appreciate the question — let's unpack this. It's understandable to explore every option when your dog is battling cancer. Many pet owners are curious about the benefits of CBD and THC oils. CBD, a compound found in cannabis, is non-psychoactive, meaning it won't make your dog "high," and it's often used for pain relief, reducing inflammation, and calming anxiety in pets. THC, on the other hand, is the psychoactive component and can be harmful to dogs in large amounts.

While some studies and anecdotal evidence suggest CBD might help manage pain and improve quality of life for dogs with cancer, it's crucial to approach its use cautiously. Starting with a small dose and gradually increasing under veterinary guidance is ideal. Avoid giving THC oil without a vet's approval as it can cause significant health issues like confusion, lack of coordination, or even seizures.

Watch for signs of distress such as excessive drooling, vomiting, panting, or lethargy, which could indicate an adverse reaction. If you notice these, seek veterinary help immediately.
