Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear that your cat is having trouble with her skin and fur. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this and help your feline friend feel better soon. Skin peeling with hair loss can happen for several reasons. It might be due to an allergic reaction, often to something like a new food, fleas, or another type of allergen in their environment. It could also be due to a skin infection, parasites such as mites, or even stress which can lead to over-grooming and subsequent hair and skin irritation.
In the meantime, try keeping your cat's environment calm and stress-free. Ensure her diet is consistent and watch for any itching or signs of discomfort. Applying a damp, cool cloth to the affected area can sometimes offer relief.
Be on the lookout for redness, significant changes in her behavior, or if the condition seems to be getting worse, like developing sores or increasing hair loss, as these might indicate something more serious that needs veterinary attention.
I'd recommend booking a video consult with one of our veterinarians here on Dial A Vet. They can take a closer look and offer more personalized advice. I hope your furry companion is feeling better soon!
Cat's skin peeling off with hair
I'm feeling really worried and could use some advice or reassurance. My sweet kitty, Jasper, has been having some pretty alarming issues with his skin and fur lately. A few days ago, I noticed small patches where his fur seemed thinner than usual, but I didn't think much of it at first. Now, it's gotten worse, and I’m finding clumps of his fur around the house, and when I take a closer look, it seems like the skin underneath is peeling off with it. It's kind of flaky and just looks painful. Has anybody experienced anything similar with their cats? I’m planning to get him to the vet, but I can’t help freaking out in the meantime. Jasper's behavior is still normal; he’s eating and playing, but I can't shake this worry. Any thoughts on what could be going on or how to keep him comfortable until we get to the vet? Thanks so much for any insight you can share.
