I'm really hoping someone here might have some advice or insight. My cat, Luna, has been having these strange twitching episodes. It's like her whole body goes into a little spasm, and it happens intermittently throughout the day. She'll be just fine one moment, then suddenly her skin will ripple and she'll jerk for a few seconds. It's breaking my heart to see her like this. I took her to the vet, but they couldn't find anything wrong. They ran some basic tests but didn't really have any answers. Has anyone else experienced something like this with their cat? I'm worried sick and just want to help her feel comfortable again. Any thoughts or suggestions on what might be happening or what I can do next would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that your cat is having these twitching episodes, and I understand how concerning that can be. Let's see if we can figure out what might be going on.
Cats can twitch for several reasons. It could be something as simple as a skin irritation, like fleas or allergies, causing your kitty to itch and twitch. Another possibility is that your cat might be experiencing muscle spasms due to low calcium levels or dehydration. Neurological issues, although less common, could also be a cause, as well as stress or anxiety.
You can try monitoring your cat for other symptoms. Is your cat eating and drinking normally? Any changes in behavior, like increased hiding or vocalizing? Check their skin for signs of irritants or fleas, and make sure they have access to fresh water to prevent dehydration.
Keep an eye out for signs that might indicate a more serious issue, such as the twitching becoming more frequent or severe, the appearance of seizures, sudden lethargy, or any changes in their coordination and balance.
If you notice any of these warning signs, an additional vet consultation would be a good idea. A video consult with Dial A Vet can help us look into this more closely and provide you with guidance tailored to your kitty’s specific needs. Taking the next step could help bring peace of mind for both you and your furry friend.
