I'm really hoping someone here can offer some advice because I'm at a bit of a loss right now. My cat, Whiskers, was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection a couple of weeks ago, and the vet put him on a course of antibiotics. He seemed to be doing a bit better at first, but now he’s back to being super lethargic. It breaks my heart to see him like this because he's usually so playful and energetic. He’s eating and drinking fine, but all he wants to do is curl up and sleep in his favorite spot by the window. I'm worried something else might be going on, or that the infection isn’t completely gone. Have any of you experienced something similar with your cats after a UTI? Any tips or advice would be so appreciated. I just want him back to his bouncy self. Thanks in advance.
Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear that your cat is still feeling under the weather after UTI treatment. It’s understandable to be concerned. While urinary tract infections can make our feline friends quite uncomfortable, they usually start bouncing back once treatment begins.
Lethargy after a UTI could have a few explanations. Your cat might be taking a little longer to recover from the infection, or there could be an underlying issue like stress, kidney concerns, or even a different type of infection. Sometimes, the antibiotics themselves can cause some tummy upset or discomfort, leading to less activity and a decrease in appetite.
At home, ensure that your cat is drinking plenty of water and has a quiet, comfortable space to rest. Encouraging gentle play with a favorite toy can sometimes lift their spirits. However, watch for signs that could indicate a more serious issue, such as continued difficulty urinating, blood in their urine, vomiting, or not eating or drinking at all.
Since your kitty is still not quite herself, it’s a good idea to follow up with a vet. I recommend booking a video consult through Dial A Vet, where a professional can guide you on the next steps specific to your cat’s needs.
Hoping to see your cat back to their playful self soon!
